1st Workshop on Dependable Software Engineering 2008

Tuesday November 11, 2008 : Detailed Program

The role and usage of software in safety critical or mission critical systems is ever increasing. Examples of such systems include control systems for nuclear reactor, space, airborne, automotive, and automotive traffic systems. Software engineering of such software dependable systems has been cultivated in each domain with their specific hardware and human involvement. However, because of their similarity on the aspect of "dependability", the software in such systems would require similarly specialized software engineering.

The 1st Workshop on Dependable Software Engineering being organised in conjunction with the 19th IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering (ISSRE 2008) aims to provide a forum for researchers, practitioners as well as suppliers, utility and regulatory bodies from different safety communities to share and discuss the ideas, trends, experiences and concerns in the field of Dependable Software Engineering (DSE).

Call for Papers

The workshop organises papers within, but are not restricted to, topics mentioned below:
  • Model based approach
  • Object oriented approach
  • Quantitative Risk Analysis
  • Economic problem of DSE
  • Empirical approach for DSE
The workshop is organized as follows:

Workshop Program

  • Presentation Session
The presentation session will include keynote speech(es) followed by the presentations. Authors of the selected papers will be given the opportunity to present for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Keynote Speakers
    Doo Hwan Bae, KAIST, Korea
    Bjørn Axel Gran, IFE, Norway
  • Discussion Session
Based on the presentations and discussions during the presentation sessions, the most common topics of interest will be identified and further discussed through coffee table discussions.
  • Wrap-up Session
    Conclusions and future research agenda
The full program of the workshop will be published when all position papers have been accepted.

Paper Submission

Participants wishing to present paper are asked to electronically submit a paper (more information on paper submission available at the workshop website).

Paper submission types
  • Regular papers (4-6 pages): should describe the authors research results relevant to one of the workshop topics.
  • Position papers (2-3 pages): should present open issues, authors ideas and opinions and/or early research results in the areas of DSE

Authors wishing to submit an extended-version of their paper to the special issue of the Journal of Systems and Software are encouraged to submit regular papers.

Publications

  • The papers presented at the workshop will be included in the ISSRE supplemental proceedings and will be made available at the IEEE Explore digital library.
  • Participants will also receive a monograph of the workshop, which includes the accepted papers, presentations and the minutes from the discussions.
  • Special issue of the Journal of Systems and Software
  • Authors of the best selected papers will be invited to submit an extended-version of their papers to the special issue of the Journal of Systems and Software (JSS).
