Abstract
The Metrics Quality team wanted a metric that would enable development teams to make better decisions regarding quality prior to product release. Often development teams would confuse low incoming defect rates with shipment ready quality. Teams also found it difficult to accurately predict when a product would be ready to ship. Customer both internally and externally require an accurate ship date. Cisco required a universal tool that would assist teams in judging quality prior to shipment. We focused our efforts on a handful of business unit engineering teams that were interested in the new tool. We trained teams on the benefits of the tool and how they could be used in Engineering teams and Product Teams. Over the past year we have many teams using the metric to make informed decisions regarding product quality. Our primary focus has been on Software quality because that is our expertise. Recently the metrics team has also branched out into using DDR for the ASIC development processes.
